My Story

“I’ve always been attracted to colours, mixing and blending them to make my own unique palette”

Luruk-In is an Australian Aboriginal art business founded by Aimee McCartney, a proud Taungurung, Wotjobaluk, Wemba Wemba, and Boon Wurrung woman. Born and raised on Wurundjeri Country in Naarm (Melbourne), Aimee grew up in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and now resides on Gunaikurnai Country in Victoria.

Aimee’s upbringing was deeply rooted in family and culture. Growing up as part of a large family, she was always surrounded by brothers, sisters, cousins, aunties, and uncles. Culture was ever-present in her life through dance, weaving, painting, and singing - and became a vital part of how she expressed herself. This connection to her heritage has continued to shape her identity and her work in the creative space.

As an emerging contemporary Aboriginal artist, Aimee’s vibrant approach blends bright colours and textures with her strong cultural and ancestral identity. Her intricate, eye-catching artworks on canvas explore modern society through the lens of the world’s oldest living culture. She draws her greatest inspiration from Country its waterways, mountains, sand, soil, and shells—and channels this into her art to keep the sacred tradition of Storytelling alive.

Alongside her art, Aimee has extensive professional experience. She has worked in numerous State and Federal Government agencies, specialising in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander recruitment, employment and retention. In 2017, Aimee was selected to represent the state of Victoria at the National Indigenous Youth Parliament. The following year, Aimee commissioned as an Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, where she continues to serve full-time, completing various roles, exercises and deployments across Australia.

Through her art and her work, Aimee’s hope is to inspire others to connect with and learn about First Nations culture, history, stories, and language.
